Library Types

Postby tomgr » Thu Jul 19, 2012 12:47 pm

The CITP protocol specification lists eight (8) recognized library types. 2D/3D mesh objects are not listed in this list, but it is very handy to be able to retrieve information and thumbnails for them.

What is the proper library type for reporting such mesh objects? None of the eight recognized types accurately describe such objects.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Tom,

Unless you reveal more detail about your product and the properties of these mesh objects, I think it will be difficult to help you choose one of the existing.

We could of course add a new, but then the question becomes how existing products will behave - will they ignore it alltogether or accept Generic Element Information ?

Cheers

The product is the High End Systems DL/Axon media server. The server is a 3D server. Media is textured onto variously shaped 3d meshes. Meshes range in shape from highly abstract, to product logos, to 2D rectangles.

At this time the only attribute of interest is the shape, as the size, position, rotation and such are under control of other DMX parameters. It may at some time in the future to be able to report number of materials supported and other attributes.

In our CMA, a remote content management application, we present the user with thumbnails of the various meshes available to aid in potential selection. CITP implementations would benefit from the ability to present thumbnails of 3D meshes.

I'm in favour of adding a new type then, "3D Mesh" on the next available number. Anything else missing?

"... next available number." 9 (nine) then is the library type associated with meshes, if my arithmetic skills suffice.

For the moment, that is all. We'll see what else pops up during development.

Thanks.
